In a text-book display of running form and pacing Haile Gebreselassie has just shattered the marathon world record in the Real Berlin Marathon. Running away with the race from wire-to-wire, Gebreselassie unofficially finished in 2:04:26, breaking the world record by 29 seconds!
The previous record set on the same course in 2003 by Paul Tergat was 2:04:55.
