NAIROBI, May 7 (Xinhua) — World half-marathon record holder Sammy Wanjiru is expected to leave Kenya next week for Japan where he will start preparation for the Beijing Olympic Games. Wanjiru trains in Japan with Coach coach Francis Kamau and last year won the presigious Fukuoka Marathon in his debut at the distance.

This weekend’s Belfast Marathon drew 15,000 runners and was won by Kenya’s John Mutai in 2:16:31.
The women’s race was won Ethopia’s Marashet Jumma - broke the course record with a time of two hours, 39 minutes and 22 seconds.

Alicia Shay, widow of late marathon-runner Ryan Shay, is working hard to move forward with her life, according to lengthy article about her in USA Today. Alicia, who finished fifth in the 10,000M run in the 2004 US Olympic Trials is attempting to qualify for the Beijing Olympics in the 10,000M.
