Running: Alicia Shay profiled in USA Today

Alicia Shay, widow of late marathon-runner Ryan Shay, is working hard to move forward with her life, according to lengthy article about her in USA Today. Alicia, who finished fifth in the 10,000M run in the 2004 US Olympic Trials is attempting to qualify for the Beijing Olympics in the 10,000M.

Quoted in the article, Alicia speaks about the spirit of the running community that she has seen since the death of her husband in the US Olympic Trials last November:

“There’s something about the sport that requires a particular kind of person, a person of integrity, humbleness and passion,” Shay says. “It’s a very giving community. The tragedy of Ryan’s death has brought that to the surface. It’s been overwhelming to see how many lives he’s touched.”

Shay lives in Flagstaff, Arizona. She hopes to qualify for the Olympic Team this coming June at the US Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon.
