Dallas, TX –– Cool, overcast skies greeted nearly 14,000 entrants for the second annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas Half Marathon on Sunday morning. Amongst the largest half-marathon field in Dallas history was NFL legend Troy Aikman, the three-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. Aikman, who completed the half marathon in 1 hour, 48 minutes and 11 seconds, was inspired by his personal connection to the event’s charitable tie with Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.
Mexico Olympian Carlos Cordero Gomez made his first road race in the U.S. a memorable one, taking the lead from the start to win the men’s half marathon in 1:03:58. Gomez set the tone early, commanding a huge gap with a 4:36 opening mile and 5k split of 15:01.
“It was tough running out there all by myself, but this was my first race in the U.S. and the bands and cheerleaders along the course were great. I loved it,” said Gomez, who finished 32nd in the marathon at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and is preparing for the London Marathon.
