Olympic Trials: 35 records fall in Eugene as US picks Beijing Team

EUGENE — As the US Olympic Track and Field Trials came to close, 35 records have fallen across the many track and field events that saw action at Hawyard Field this past week. From new American Records all the way down to new High School Records, the record books were heavily re-written at the meet.

Perhaps most memorable were Tyson Gay setting the new 100M American Record in 9.77 at the start of the games and then young Jordan Hasay running a new High School Record in her 4:14:50 1,500M preliminary heat. At just 16 years-old, Hasay put on a gutsy performance in the finals bringing Hayward Field to rosuing cheers.

Tyson Gay followed up his American Record by running the fastest time in the world (9.68 ) “under any conditions” as one commentator put it in the final round of the 100M. The slight tail-wind negates the time for record purposes, so it will not appear as an offical record. Yet it amazing performance that sets up a showdown with Usain Bolt in the Beijing Olympics.

Here is a complete list of all 35 records that were set at the 2008 US Olympic Track and Field Trials. The list includes the athelete’s name, their event, their time or score and the date.
